In today’s job market, networking is more important than ever and in March, Career Development presented an event to help students in the College’s social services fields make some important connections. Students had the opportunity to network with representatives from more than a dozen social service organizations from Philadelphia and neighboring communities.

“In the last few years, we have decided to add some targeted networking events in lieu of a multi-purpose job fair,” says Nancy Dachille, director of career development. “An event of this nature is less intimidating for our students and provides recruiters with students interested in their organizations.”

Organizations represented were Access Services, Bethanna, Carson Valley Children’s Aid, Elwyn SEEDS, Green Tree School & Services, Horizon House Inc., Kaleidoscope Family Solutions, Main Line Rehabilitation Associates, Inc., Mitzvah Circle Foundation, Northeast Treatment Centers, SPIN, Staffing Plus, State Correctional Institution-Graterford and Victim Services Center of Montgomery County.

“We hope that students learn about the types of positions recruiters are seeking along with some important tips about applying as well as the skills needed to work at these organizations,” says Dachille.

This event gives students a chance to make that good contact and first impression, which are so vital in this job market. She added that the response has been positive and several students have been called for interviews.
