Harry Potter Conference 2014

Save the Date – Harry Potter is Returning in October

The Harry Potter Conference is scheduled for Friday, October 16, and will be held in the Rotunda and adjacent rooms. An essay contest for high school students is also being held, with three CHC scholarships being awarded to the authors of the best essays. The conference is free, however, registration is required.

Dr. Maria Tater, the John L. Loeb Professor of Germanic Languages and Literatures and Chair of the Committee on Degrees in Folklore and Mythology at Harvard University, will be a plenary speaker. Karin Westman, a professor at Kansas State University who has published an article on Harry Potter in the “Oxford Handbook of Children’s Literature” also will be a plenary speaker. Loris Vezzali, a professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, will be a guest speaker. He has published original research in the “Journal of Applied Social Psychology” about how reading the “Harry Potter” books significantly improves tolerance in children.

Elisha Goodman ’16, an SCPS student with a double major in healthcare management and business administration, has received a 2015 Sigma Beta Delta Fellowship award.

She was one of 20 recipients of the fellowship, which is awarded nationwide to students of business, management and administration in recognition of their commitment to furthering their education, their scholarship and accomplishments.
