Chestnut Hill College’s Office of Career Development hosted a business networking and recruiting event in mid-February during which students had the chance to make connections and find potential internships.
Four CHC alums participated in the event to meet with fellow Griffins and share their experiences.
“As alumni, we should all find ways to support our alma mater,” says Mary Ann Patton ’87. “Being present at these kinds of events is a great way to support the College’s growth and sustainability. It’s also rewarding to help students figure out their goals and future.” Patton represented First Financial Group at the event.
Business major Kim Morales ’17 finds recruiting and networking extremely important to get your name out in the professional world. “Most of these companies follow up with you after you meet them, she says. “I went to the human services networking event, even though it wasn’t my major, but I still received communications from these companies.”
“It’s so important for students to network, and this is an excellent opportunity for them to see what is out there,” says Nancy Dachille, director of career development. “This was a beneficial event and we hope students will continue to utilize this great resource.”
Dachille says it’s also important for alumni to return to campus because the students are comfortable with them and look up to them because of their shared experience.
“We love to have our alums return as recruiters,” she adds.
Thirteen employers and seven graduate schools sent representatives. The next event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Rotunda and East Parlor for students majoring in (or interested in) the criminal justice and social services fields.
Two alums will represent their organizations. Diane Iardella, who works for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Mary Kate McShane who works with the Victims Services Center of Montgomery County.
