Professor Harald zur Hausen, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine

In 1994, just two years after beginning her teaching career at Chestnut Hill College, Lakshmi Atchison, Ph.D., professor of biology, brought her dream to fruition. That dream of an annual biomedical series in which top scientific professionals would give lectures to students and the community quickly won wide acclaim.

The College recently hosted a Wellness Day, sponsored by Student Life with participation from Student Activities, Counseling Center, Health Center, Campus Ministry and Janice Kuklick, chair of the physical education department, to encourage students, faculty and staff to create a healthy body-mind-spirit balance in their lives.

Students arriving at the Fun at One event in the Student Activities Office on February 17 were treated to a special yogurt bar and giveaways from the College Bookstore in exchange for learning something about the world of philanthropy.

When Voices Meet event

Chestnut Hill College’s Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation (IFR) and the Black Student Union hosted Sharon Katz and The Peace Train for a rousing concert by the four-person band and a showing of Katz’s award-winning documentary “When Voices Meet.”

It is said that the student teaching experience varies from school to school, from teacher to teacher. That you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Those statements couldn’t be truer especially as they relate to several students last fall whose student teaching experience was a little different — and perhaps even a little more groundbreaking — than others.

Legacy of Service

Being of service to others is one of CHC’s core values and a central tenet of our mission. So it stands to reason that the College would find a way to help those who help others.

The Teacher Job Fair is an excellent way for aspiring teachers to meet prospective employers face-to-face.

The Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation (IFR), the history club and history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, and the Black Student Union (BSU) set out to engage and educate the College community on issues facing the African-American population today and in the past in honor of Black History Month.

Recently, Krista Bailey Murphy, Ph.D., and Jessica Day ’09, accompanied student-athletes, Kaileik Asbury ’17, Kevin Clancy ’19, Andrew Hildebrand ’17 and Michaiah Young ’17, to the 25th annual NCAA APPLE Conference for promoting student-athlete wellness and substance abuse prevention.
